Tsuru-no-Sugomori (Nesting of Cranes) Japanese traditional for flute solo was not spontaneous choice of this program. Last year I gave the master class at the Zhengzhou Unversity of China. I had a possibility to see the collection of folk wind instruments in the Zhengzhou national museum and to visit the famous monastery and kunfu school in Shaolin. I was very impressed by the deep and colourful Asian nature. Also noticed how much Asian culture adores the wind instruments (specially flute)!
This transcription of Tsuru-no-Sugomori is based on an interpretation by the shakuhachi master Katsuya Yokoyama and arranged for the modern flute by Will Offermans.
With its flexible sound (dynamic, timbre, intonation), the intense use of breath and its deep-rooted history the shakuhachi has been attracting the interest of many flautists around the world. The shakuhachi player seems to concentrate on the breathing, accepting the sound itself as a natural consequence.
From September 2003 I am studying the Alexander Technique by guidance of Doris Hochscheid. I hope that the knowledge & experience of Alexander Technique will help me to express myself as a flutist & stage performer on the new level.
Since 1990 I form the flute/piano duo with Belarusian pianist Sergey Smirnov. As an ode to our time-tested frièndship we will perform the Sonata (1957) by Czech composer Jindrich Feld. This Sonata discovered to us that – Music is not only our life hut, in fact, a chance to express ourselves and to share with the others the spirit and feelings.
Since January 2004 we worked on the Sonata by guidance of Hans Eijsackers (duo class at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague).
During several years I have promoted the music of Sergey Beltiukov (my father). My favourite compositions (which 1 had premiered) among the others are: Concerto Capriccio (1995) for flute and orchestra, Credo for flute and chamber orchestra (1996), Concerto for 4 Soloists (flute, violin, cello and piano) and symphony orchestra (1999), and several chamber music compositions (Pastoral, Sketches 1-11). The Butterflies for two flutes by Sergey Beltiukov was written specially for the premiere in Amsterdam in April 2003. As a ‘final touch’ in my exam program I will perform the Tamburino by S. Beltiukov (originally written for violin & piano but arranged for the final exam for flute & piano).
